The History of Bridals by Lori

Our Story: A Dream, a Family, and Four Decades of Bridal Excellence

In 1980, just two weeks after graduating from Columbia College as a business major with a minor in fashion merchandising, Lori Allen opened a small bridal storefront in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Inspired by her aunt’s long-standing bridal salons in Birmingham, Alabama, Lori knew early on that she wanted to own her own business and build something meaningful.

With unwavering family support, and a determination not to fail, Lori stepped into an industry that looked very different than it does today. There were only a handful of bridal salons in the South, and the couture designer pool was small but mighty, led by names like Priscilla of Boston and House of Bianchi. Still, Lori was excited, driven, and deeply in love with what she was doing. An attitude she proudly says has never changed.

That modest shop became the foundation for what is now one of the most recognized and respected bridal salons in the world: Bridals by Lori.

Built by Family, Guided by Heart

From the very beginning, bridals by lori was a family effort. Lori’s parents believed in her vision and gave her the opportunity to mold a small boutique into something far greater. Her husband, Eddie, became and remains her biggest cheerleader. That belief system shaped not only the business, but the culture inside the salon.

Lori’s philosophy was simple and powerful: treat every bride like a family member and transform what can be a stressful moment into an enjoyable, unforgettable experience. That mindset guided every early decision, from how gowns were presented to how consultants connected with brides.

One of Lori’s favorite dresses from those early years still stands out: a House of Bianchi gown with a high neckline, cap sleeves, and exquisite embroidery that felt extraordinary for its time. It’s a reminder that even then, Bridals by Lori was drawn to craftsmanship, emotion, and timeless beauty.

Growing Into a Bridal Destination

As the salon evolved, so did its reach. bridals by lori expanded to a second location in Gwinnett County before eventually consolidating into a single, three-story flagship salon. In February 2002, the current location opened. The was designed with museum-style décor to romanticize the gowns and elevate the shopping experience into something truly special.

Around the early 2000s, the salon also expanded its offerings, adding Special Occasion in 2000, launching BlackTie by Lori in 2005, and continuing to refine its couture bridal selection..

Today, Bridals by Lori is one of the South’s largest bridal salons, currently offering:

  • Couture Bridal: World-renowned designers and fashion-forward collections curated for today’s bride.
  • Special Occasion: Elevated gowns for mothers and formal events, styled with intention and care.
  • Custom Menswear: Tailored suiting through BlackTie by Lori, bringing the same expertise to the groom.

What has fueled this growth? Exceptional customer service, an ever-evolving eye for fashion, and an understanding that while trends change, the emotional significance of the dress never does.

A Global Bride, A Timeless Experience

The bridals by lori bride has always been beautifully diverse. She might be the girl next door, or a country music singer, a lawyer, or a doctor. In Lori’s words, “the Bridals by Lori bride is everyone.”

Over the years, that bride has come from farther and farther away. While the salon has always welcomed out-of-town brides, today most weekend appointments include travelers from across the country, and beyond. From Atlanta to Saudi Arabia, brides seek out bridals by lori for its selection, expertise, and once-in-a-lifetime experience.

What has remained timeless is the understanding that a wedding gown is not just a purchase. It’s a connection. One that can’t be forced, only allowed to happen naturally. Just like falling in love.

Say Yes to the Dress: A Cultural Moment

When NorthSouth Productions first approached Bridals by Lori about filming Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta, Lori didn’t hesitate. As a businesswoman, she immediately recognized it as irreplaceable advertising. But more importantly, as a chance to authentically showcase the Southern bride and her bridal experience.

Over 11 seasons of Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta and four seasons of Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids, the salon became a household name. Viewers around the world connected with the emotion, the humor, and the humanity of saying yes.

For Lori, watching the show succeed was deeply personal. Pouring her heart and soul into the business and then seeing it resonate globally felt, as she describes it, like watching her children grow into fabulous adults.

Nearly every bride who walks through the doors mentions the show, and fans from around the world still stop by to see where filming took place. More than entertainment, the series made a genuine impact. It captured how special the bridal purchase truly is and how deeply the people around the bride matter.

One unforgettable on-screen moment remains especially close to Lori’s heart: the episode featuring bride Hope, who chose to move forward with love and courage after her fiancé was diagnosed with ALS. There wasn’t a dry eye in the building.

Using a Platform for Good

Beyond fashion and fame, Lori has always believed in using her voice for something bigger. When she publicly shared her own cancer battle, she did so with honesty and strength, offering hope and awareness to countless others. It was another example of Lori leading with heart. Proving that Bridals by Lori has always been about people first.

Looking Ahead

Founded in 1980, Bridals by Lori has grown from a single small storefront into one of the most influential bridal salons in the world. Awards, accolades, and global recognition mark the journey, but Lori measures success differently.

She remains most proud of how the salon has supported its brides. With care, joy, and authenticity.

And as for the future?

Lori says she will never be satisfied. She plans to keep evolving, growing, and ensuring that Bridals by Lori becomes everything it was always destined to be.

Because at its heart, Bridals by Lori is, and has always been, a dream fulfilled. One bride at a time.
